Heritage H-157 "Black Beauty"

This is the Heritage equivalent of the Les Paul Custom.

This particular one is a 2003 model in black, aka "Black Beauty", and the pickups are Schaller or HRW ( Heritage modified Schallers).

It weighs in at 9.4lbs, about 4.2 kg. Heritage make these the old fashioned way, no weight relief or chambering, just all solid woods.

All of the hardware is gold plated as you can see, with grover tuners, the bridge and tail piece are most likely Schaller. All inlays, fingerboard and headstock, are mother of pearl, plastic is not used for inlays. The fingerboard is ebony with binding all round, with triple binding on the front and rear of the body.

All Heritage necks are done by hand so they do vary in profile. Guitars from the mid to late '00s to the present day have slightly chunkier necks, not baseball bat but medium. This particular one is not chunky but also not thin, it's in the middle somewhere.

I really don't like black guitars at all, the last time I owned one was back in the '80s, a lefty Westbury Standard ( anyone remember them). I have avoided black guitars ever since.

So I took a chance on this one and I'm glad I did. It is very cool ! Nice and formal looking but nasty at the same time.

C'est une très bonne question... Sur le site Heritage y'a pas plus d'info que sur celui de adirondack guitar !

Tante Edith vient de regarder sur Harmony Central. Ca peut aussi être des SD 59' ! En même temps le prix chez adirondack ($2495.00) est nettement au dessus des prix annoncés sur HC !

Sur ma 150, c'est des Seth Lover, j'aime beaucoup...

J'aurais bien pris une 150, mais il y en a plus en stock.

The guitar pictured has Duncan pickups fitted .... Schaller and HRWs ( modded Schallers) have 4 height adjustment screws per pickup. Duncans have two screws per pickup. They are usually '59s or Seth Lovers and the type installed is sometimes written on the control cover .....



I would also ask for the serial number of the guitar, to determine what year it was made and also to ensure you receive the guitar you are looking at.

As for the differences between a 157 and a 150 it is very similar to the differences between a Les Paul Custom and a Les Paul Standard.

A 157 has an ebony board with block inlays starting at the first fret, 150 has a rosewood board with trap inlays starting at the second fret. A 157 is bound front and rear and also has a bound headstock, a 150 has front binding only and usually an unbound headstock. The 157 has gold hardware and the 150 has nickel or chrome.

An AA prefix serial number was 2010, Z****** was 2009, Y= 2008, X=2007. 2011 should be an AB serial.

Also I have heard that 157s tends to be a bit heavier than 150s, that is true with mine, the 157 is 9.4lbs and the 150 is 8.2lbs although the average weight can vary. The sold 150s on Jerrys site vary from 9.5 to about 10.5 lbs.
